Orlando Philharmonic rehearsals going well
This Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Feb 11th evenings have been filled with the lively activities of a healthy arts community of Orlando, Florida. While the Shakespeare Society offers Hamlet on the stages in the north side of the building, the Orlando Opera Chorus rehearse Carmen on the south. One floor above them, the Orlando Philharmonic strings rehearse this weekend's concerts - "A String Romance".

There, Percy Grainger, Vaughan-Williams, Holst, Debussy and Elgar are heard and polished. But most of all, they mastering my violin concerto "On the Playground". It became clear to me at yesterday's rehearsal that my work is in good hands. Tomasz Kocsis, the concerto's soloist has taken the work as his own and I am gladdened because it will receive masterful and spirited performances this weekend. Every note is precise and golden, the melodies sing and glide. A difficult work for the ensemble, all three movements have already found their energy and focus. These players are on fire! I am greatly honored by Maestro Christopher Wilkins' choice to include my work, and ever impressed by his poise and articulate mastery of music in front of the orchestra.

Tomorrow is a dress rehearsal - which will be recorded in Surround. We will employ a Soundfield B-format microphone in the middle of the stage, a pair of AKGs on Tamasz, and if needed, a spaced pair on the flanks. We'll run these through an Apogee Ensemble into Logic 9. This will provide editing options for the real thing Saturday night.

What a high this week is turning out to be!
