Contented Waltz (sampled) |
This light piece was originally dated Octobe 10, 1995 as "Waltz for Guitar". In 1999 it underwent major revisions, and in 2001, it became a piece for solo guitar for my twin brother, Kevin, called "Kevin the Cricket Waltz".
Guitarist composers and songwriters have the ability to create new work for guitar through imagination and an intimate physical knowing of their instrument. I find writing for the instrument difficult. To overcome its limitations and harness its strengths is challenge enough, notwithstanding creating music worth listening. Yet, through good musical friendships over the years with excellent guitarists Steve Aron and Tom Olson, as well as my twin brother, Kevin, I knew and loved the sound and capacity of the instrument through its repertoire. Perhaps that is why this little waltz emerged as sweet and simple. I simply could not find anything in my strivings worth Villa Lobos or Barrios. So, I just contented myself to let it be what it is.
